Lead Estimator

Our client is a rapidly growing, dynamic firm that specializes in heavy highway construction, sitework, underground utilities, and excavation. They serve public and private customers, and are known throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest as an innovative company. Focus areas are DOT, public works, and large commercial & residential projects. The Lead Estimator will manage preparation and submission of estimates for heavy civil/highway projects on road interchanges, drainage systems, earthwork, and underground utilities (sewer, water, storm drain). The ideal candidate will oversee and perform professional estimating duties and will have the capacity to manage the bid process for several projects simultaneously. He or she will supervise estimating team members and be responsible for mentoring, training, and quality assurance.

The person in this position will:

  • Prepare, review, and solicit estimates for bidding site work.
  • Perform quantity takeoff and pricing for bidding purposes.
  • Prepare final project costs and construction budgets from cost estimates.
  • Review contract documents and understand project parameters.
  • Have a thorough understanding of construction means and methods.
  • Stay updated on market trends and fluctuations in material prices.

Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with customers, clients, and vendors
  • Oversight of project scheduling and cost containment
  • Regular communication with company leadership and mid-level management
  • Ensuring all projects operate according to schedule and to maximum profitability, while maintaining rigorous safety standards
  • Leading a team of field staff, subcontractors, and project personnel

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of project management experience in earthwork, underground utilities, and/or heavy highway construction
  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or commensurate experience
  • Strong work ethic combined with exemplary leadership and communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of project management software
