OCCUPATION : Purchasing Agent
LOCATION: Corporate Office
JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, The Purchasing Agent is responsible for managing the supply chain and coordinating the purchase of goods and services for the company in an efficient and economical manner. Is an integral part of the organizational team, working with suppliers, customers, plant management and fellow employees to achieve overall company goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Meet with plant management across the organization to determine procurement needs.
Manage multiple priorities while effectively communicating with internal and external customers and suppliers.
Establish relationships with suppliers and negotiate pricing, terms, and service expectations.
Evaluate vendor performance and capabilities. Review the value of existing consignment programs and service agreements.
Make purchases of materials, equipment, and services. Identify opportunities for cost savings.
Review status of open purchase orders, address and resolve any discrepancies throughout process.
Issue daily purchase orders to meet pricing and delivery requirements.
Assist in managing on handling inventory quantities and valuation.
Maintain accurate recordkeeping, including price histories and vendor information to ensure immediate and accurate access to information.
Performs other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills, specifically Excel, and experience working with an ERP system. Experience with Microsoft Great Plains Purchasing module a plus. Requires the ability to work with and interface with all levels of the organization in a team environment, be detailed, analytical and able to solve problems and results driven. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Requires an associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration or related subject and at least three years of experience in purchasing or the equivalent in education and work experience in a purchasing environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls and talks and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. The noise level is usually quiet.
