Department: Marketing & Communications

Reports to: VP of Marketing & Communications

 

About FIAF:

FIAF is a multi-disciplinary educational and cultural organization located in midtown Manhattan. Its mission is to promote and enhance the knowledge and appreciation of French and francophone cultures, to increase the knowledge of the French language, and to encourage interaction among French, francophone and American people through education and cultural programs. FIAF has an extensive Language Center offering hundreds of French classes, a French Library, and cultural programs ranging from cinema and performing arts to visual arts and social event programs.

 

Position Overview:

The Marketing Director will work closely with the VP of Marketing & Communications to shape and expand FIAF’s public awareness while enhancing the organization's profile and visibility. This position requires a creative and strategic thinker with a profound passion for the arts and education, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record in communications and marketing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within the NYC arts and education industry and a deep connection to the arts scene, crucial attributes for amplifying our mission and values to the public. The Marketing Director plays a key role in FIAF’s Marketing team, managing the Digital Marketing Manager and coordinating with other team members and across the organization to support our ambitious goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Strategize closely with the VP of Marketing & Communications to develop, implement, and optimize the marketing strategy to amplify FIAF’s goals and mission and drive qualified traffic to the front door
  • Deploy successful marketing campaigns and own their implementation from ideation to execution
  • Experiment with a variety of organic and paid acquisition channels such as content creation, content curation, pay per click campaigns, lead generation campaigns, email acquisition strategies, and influencer marketing, among others
  • Measure and report on the performance of marketing campaigns and leverage research and data insights to optimize marketing and communications practices
  • Identify and analyze market challenges and opportunities, refining the communication strategy accordingly
  • Edit and oversee monthly marketing reports, working with VP of Marketing & Communications to develop new strategies for data-backed improvement
  • Establish and nurture relationships with vendors, agencies, and key stakeholders in the NYC arts and education industries
  • Administer the Marketing Department operating budget in concert with the VP of Marketing & Communications, making recommendations for allocation
  • Work with cross-functional partners to implement new programming and create forecast
  • Oversee the Email & Digital Marketing Manager in:
  • Developing, implementing, and executing strategic email marketing campaigns in support of FIAF-wide communications, events, and language center offerings
  • Analyzing consumer behavior and adjusting email and advertising campaigns accordingly
  • Managing lead-generating digital ad campaigns via direct efforrts through Meta and via our agency partner
  • Managing the SEO strategy and executing plans to improve organic search rankings 
  • Overseeing content management of FIAF’s WordPress website
  • Producing valuable and engaging content for our website and blog that attracts and converts our target groups
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications and the rest of the marketing team to implement cohensive marketing plans that support major institutional strategies with messaging that aligns seamlessly
  • Collaborate with the Box Office Manager to optimize the organization's ticket sales strategy to maximize sales and audience engagement, and manage existing relationships with external vendors and sales partners (Today Tix, TDF, etc)
  • Assist with marketing material implementation, collaborating closely with the Design team to produce high-impact and consistently excellent marketing materials
  • Work closely with the Language Center Department, Programming Department, and Development Department to support all parts of the organization with strategic marketing efforts
  • Must be available to work in-person minimum 4 days per week
  • Must be available to periodically attend events after work hours and on the weekends

 

Qualifications

This position will require a strategic, results-driven mindset, strong project management skills, exceptional writing ability, a keen eye for style and branding, and a passion for storytelling across all platforms. The ideal candidate will have a high sense of urgency and operate in a proactive, motivational manner

 

  • Education: Bachelors in a Communications, Marketing or related field preferred
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, especially in the NYC arts or education field
  • Extensive experience in a wide range of marketing strategies, including digital, email, social, print, and OOH
  • Experience with project management platforms and/or managing a complex communications calendar
  • Experience working and building within a CRM and marketing automation system
  • Proven ability to manage a team and collaborate effectively across departments
  • Excellent copywriting, editing and proofreading skills
  • Subject matter expert on email and web best practices
  • Proficient in data analysis: reporting and summarizing performance metrics to campaign collaborators and to leadership, and making data-based decisions
  • Ability to foster collegial, creative cooperation via effective communication, particularly in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, bilingual environment
  • A positive attitude and passion for the arts, with an adaptive approach to changing circumstances
  • Innovative and creative thinker
  • Must have primary or bilingual fluency in written and spoken English
  • Passion for French language and francophone culture a strong plus
