The Illinois State Police (ISP) Forensic Sciences Command (FSC) is seeking a motivated individual to fill a Forensic Science Administrator I position in the Latent Prints section at the Forensic Science Center at Chicago. The ISP FSC is the third largest forensic laboratory system in the world, and the Forensic Science Center at Chicago has over 150 employees at the facility. This individual will directly supervise a staff of approximately 10 individuals in the Latent Prints section. This leader will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of quality for the analytical procedures being performed. The ideal candidate should be a critical thinker and a good communicator. This position will work cooperatively with laboratory staff and various officials in the criminal justice system.

40% 1. Performs technical and supervisory duties as the group supervisor of the Latent Prints section at the Forensic Science Center at Chicago.
20% 2. Technically reviews and evaluates Latent Prints laboratory reports.
10% 3. Assigns and coordinates the work of subordinate staff to ensure quality Latent Prints casework is provided in a timely manner to all Chicago Laboratory user agencies and courts.
10% 4. Provides expertise in troubleshooting problems
10% 5. Ensures that the Latent Prints unit personnel have sufficient equipment, supplies, and commodities to complete their casework responsibilities.
5% 6. Attends professional meetings in order to stay abreast of the latest technology for latent fingerprint technology.
5% 7. Performs other duties as assigned or required included but not limited to the duties enumerated above.
1. Requires a bachelor's degree in a natural of forensic science, preferably supplemented by a master's degree in one of the biological, natural, physical, forensic sciences or related discipline.
2. Requires two years of professional forensic science work experience such as would be gained at the advanced caseworker level.
1. At least three (3) years of experience that would be gained at the advanced caseworker level in laboratory techniques and analytical methods utilized in the Latent Prints forensic science discipline area.
2. Experience in successfully completing Latent Prints external proficiency tests at least in the last two (2) years.
3. At least two (2) years of work experience applying State, Federal, and local criminal laws and regulations as they relate to the forensic examination and chain-of-custody of forensic evidence.
4. At least one (1) year of experience in developing, implementing, and enforcing policies, procedures and quality standards for a forensic science laboratory.
5. At least one (1) year of experience triaging forensic evidence submission and casework approach accounting for the various forensic science laboratory services provided and the different disciplines' examination techniques.
6. At least one (1) year of experience supervising subordinate staff at a laboratory or business and providing for their career development.
7. At least one (1) year of experience in the principles and practices of public and business administration including preparing administrative reports.
8. At least one (1) year of experience in developing a laboratory budget for resources to include personnel and equipment needs or assisting in the preparation and implementation of the laboratory budget.
1. Successful completion of initial and on-going, random, alcohol and drug screens
2. Successful completion of a background investigation
3. Successful completion of a polygraph examination
4. Ability to maintain credibility in providing courtroom testimony
a. Ability to adhere to Illinois State Police's ethical standards
b. Ability to adhere to Illinois State Police's policies and procedures
5. Ability to travel on an as-needed basis.
6. Ability to maintain proficiency in forensic science casework on an as-needed basis.
7. No felony or misdemeanor convictions.
