Job Description

Company Description

Desert Services is a fast-growing, 25-year site-services provider to Arizona’s construction industry. We’re the one-stop shop for SWPPP, temporary fencing, portable toilets, roll-off containers, street sweeping, water trucks (dust control), and site cleaning. Join our team as we continue to invest in our people, our equipment, and technology to scale. If you bring a strong work ethic and a growth mindset, you’ll do great things here.

Role – Estimator

Deliver timely, accurate estimating across all Desert Services lines (SWPPP, temporary fence, roll-offs, portable restrooms, street sweeping, water trucks, site cleaning). You’ll handle 25+ bids per week with clean handoff on award and proactive follow-ups with GCs and supers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate at volume: Prepare lump sum, unit-rate, and T&M quotes; target 20+ per week.
  • Scope & takeoffs: Review plans/specs, photos, and site info; occasional site walks / pre-cons for larger or specialty jobs.
  • Pricing within guardrails: Use DS standard price sheet; adjust within pre-approved ranges; escalate exceptions for approval.
  • Vendor/sub coordination: Solicit pricing where needed (disposal, materials, rentals).
  • Bid packaging & follow-ups: Issue timely, accurate proposals; follow up to close.
  • Market awareness: Track labor/material trends; flag pricing updates.
  • Quality & records: Keep estimating and CRM files tidy; maintain historical data.

KPIs & Metrics

  • Estimates issued per month (~100)
  • Customer response times (less than 24hr)
  • On-time bid submissions (98%+)

Required Skills & experience

  • 3–5+ years of construction estimating (any trade/GC/sub—service-trade a plus).
  • Read plans/specs; strong math and takeoff skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Clear, direct communicator, comfortable speaking with GCs/supers.
  • Valid driver’s license, comfortable on active jobsites.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (CM, engineering, business or similar).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base: $85,000–$110,000+.
  • Bonus: performance plan tied to quotes/month and win rate/margin.
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, PTO, boot allowance, paid paternity/maternity leave.

Work Location

  • In-person with remote flexibility (1-2 days/wk).
  • Occasional Phoenix metro-area site walks.
