This position is open to residents and non-residents of Colorado.
Incumbent will be required to complete work for CDE within Colorado.
This part-time position will work a non-regular schedule and is not benefits eligible.

In addition, CDE provides structural and administrative support to the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind and the Charter School Institute.

Description of Job
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is Part-time and is Remote (No assigned office space).
- Office hours are typically Mon-Fri, 8 am-5 pm; schedule will vary
- Extended hours during the evening or the weekend may be required by business needs
- Travel required within Denver Metro/Downtown for Meetings/Training
- Travel Within the State of Colorado (outside the Denver Metro area) may be required
- A Remote (Home) office is required
- Required to report to the work location per business needs
- Essential Functions (ADAAA)
- SEDENTARY/Office environment:
- Required to sit, view a computer screen, and utilize a keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time
- Required lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, walking, etc.
- DL Required: Required to safely operate a motor vehicle (OR State of Colorado Fleet Motor/motor vehicle) to complete travel requirements.
POSITION SUMMARY : The Special Education Director Mentor will mentor and advise new and near-new local special education directors in Administrative Units (LEAs) throughout Colorado. This position is a member of the Strategic Partnerships Team.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Serve as Mentor to new and near-new (2nd year) local Directors of Special Education in Colorado administrative units
- Meet as needed with protégés (via e-mail, telephone, Zoom, face-to-face as appropriate)
- Meet with Director Mentor Team and protégés for monthly group calls
- Respond to specific issues, provide appropriate/relevant resources, help to identify and troubleshoot potential problems
- Participate with Director Mentor team in writing/revising Mentor Curriculum, Directors' Handbook, and any guides or resources developed for the Mentor Project
- Participate in planning, implementation, and facilitation of New Directors' Orientation (1x annually)
- Participate as requested in planning and implementation of Directors' Meetings (2 x annually), Directors' Convenings (occasional), and LEAD Institute (Summer Academy)
- Maintain integrity, demonstrate professional ethics, respect boundaries, and practice confidentiality with protégé
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Strategic Partnerships

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education or a field of study related to the work assignment
- Six (6) years of experience in Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS : Qualifications for Success in the Position: Interest in establishing a learning-focused mentor/protégé relationship.
Must have served as a local Director of Special Education in Colorado for a minimum of 8 years.
Successful experience as a local Director of Special Education.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of IDEA, ECEA, rules and regulations governing special education.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of Colorado special education process.
Successful experience as an advisor, mentor, or supervisor of special education personnel.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to travel in Colorado
Preferred qualifications: Served on local and/or state level advisory committees or projects as a Director of Special Education
Experience with state IEP system and annual data collections,

- Valid Colorado Driver's License Required: Required to safely operate a State of Colorado Fleet Motor vehicle to complete travel requirements.
