Job Description
*General Responsibilities*
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing educational instruction to assigned students in a structured classroom environment designed to promote intellectual, emotional and social growth. He or she will develop lesson plans that are appropriate to the ages and populations served, specifically children and adolescents (ages 5-21 years) with emotional, developmental and/or behavioral needs. The teacher position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self- injurious behavior. Teachers are expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require teachers to be constantly ready to respond to student's needs. Special Education Teachers are responsible for the development and implementation of all academic programming, as well as clinical programming via individual education plans, of all assigned students.
The position requires a proactive approach to program development emphasizing ongoing student skill development, acquisition and maintenance, increased independence, the reduction of intensive interventions and meeting IEP behavior and academic objectives.
*Starting Pay Rate:*
Level I Certification with a Bachelors: $58,000 and Level I with a Masters: $59,500 for 10 months (Sept- June) + ESY optional (if you also work ESY there is an additional salary on top of the above sum), salary increases with additional education, certifications and years of experience.
*Basic Qualifications*
*Education/Training: *Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Human Service Field or Psychology and must hold current PA special Education Certification or be eligible for and obtain temporary certification prior to hire through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
*Certifications/Licensure: *Special Education certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Successful completion of employer provided certification in Crisis Intervention.
*Skill(s): *Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience or interest in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal skills and leadership skills. The ability to train and supervise Teaching Assistants while working within the classroom setting. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows Operating System.
*Experience: *Prefer at least one to two (1-2) years of experience with specialized populations.

*Interrelationships: *Works cooperatively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, teachers, families, nursing, social work, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, etc.to ensure that each student’s educational requirements are met.

Pay: $64,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
