About This Role As the People and Culture Director, you will work closely with our Executive Team to define and implement strategies for staffing, compensation, benefits, employee development, and more. This new, highly visible, and impactful position offers a unique opportunity to spearhead innovative approaches in human resources, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of our organization's People and Culture landscape. You will play a pivotal role, managing a high-performance team, advising executives, and shaping HR infrastructure to enhance the overall employee experience.
Essential Duties - Lead and foster a high-performance team, providing guidance, feedback, and support for individualized career development.
- Cultivate a culture of belonging, emphasizing empathy and cultural awareness.
- Make informed employment decisions in collaboration with the Chief Administrative Officer, ensuring alignment with Travel Oregon's values.
- Own key processes and facilitate organizational alignment, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Direct the development and implementation of equitable People and Culture programs.
- Drive change management initiatives related to leadership development, employee learning, and high-touch hiring processes.
- Collaborate with the Executive Team to develop accountability systems and ensure a positive employee experience.
- Provide expertise to People & Culture and Equity Communities of Practice, actively embracing diversity and inclusion
- Collaborate on analysis to optimize and evolve the agency's People and Culture functions.
- Define KPIs, evaluate performance, and provide strategic recommendations to drive success.
- Lead HR compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to local and federal employment laws.
- Oversee the implementation of strategic People and Culture technology platforms.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Five (5) years of senior-level strategic People and Culture experience.
- Strong knowledge of staffing, compensation, benefits, and human resources best practices
- Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Excellent communication and advisory skills, capable of collaborating with executive leadership.
- Ability to build and lead high-performing teams, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
About Our Work Environment: This position is designated as hybrid. Business needs may require the employee to come into a designated workplace periodically. Our employees working in roles designated as hybrid or remote must reside in Oregon or the Portland Metro area. Overnight travel, less than 20% of work time, is required in this position.
Travel Oregon offers flexible schedules and telecommuting arrangements that meet the needs of the agency and our staff while aiming to balance that flexibility with the value of in-person collaboration and best serving our mission. As a semi-independent state agency, we feel strongly about cultivating and nurturing strong relationships, both across our workforce and with our many partners and stakeholders throughout the state. To support that aim, our employees working in roles designated as hybrid or remote must reside in Oregon.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary Range: $109,550-$131,500
Benefits - Accrual of 15 days paid vacation plus 3 days personal business leave and 12 days paid
- Sick leave; 11 paid holidays, 3 days paid volunteer leave, and available paid bereavement leave
- 100% of health care premiums for core benefits (medical/dental/vision) for employee and family are paid by Travel Oregon
- Optional health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts (FSAs).
- After six full months of employment, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), including generous Travel Oregon contributions with no employee match required; optional participation in a 403(b) account (Oregon Savings Growth Plan) is also available.
