This role blends technical estimating expertise with relationship‑building—helping us win the right work with accurate, competitive bids. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy owning both numbers and client interactions, you’ll excel here. ✅ Successful Team Members in This Role Will… Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for heavy civil work Build strong relationships with clients, engineers, municipalities, and partners Support Meridian’s growth by identifying opportunities and shaping winning proposals Represent the company professionally at industry events and pre‑bid meetings Collaborate closely with leadership, field teams, and preconstruction staff ️️ A Day in the Life of a Heavy Civil Estimator: Review plans, specs, and bid documents for public and private infrastructure projects Perform detailed takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, grading, drainage, concrete, and paving Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes Attend site walks, pre‑bid meetings, and internal bid reviews Prepare bid packages, cost breakdowns, and proposal narratives Maintain current cost data and production rates to strengthen future bids Coordinate with leadership on new opportunities and strategic pursuits Measurements of Success: Full proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid within 3 months Ability to independently estimate $5M+ projects within 6 months Establishment of new client or market relationships within the first year Accurate, complete, and well‑organized estimates submitted on time Positive feedback from internal teams regarding clarity, collaboration, and communication Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work experience 5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience required Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities, drainage, and site development Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid and Microsoft Office Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines Experience with business development or client relations is preferred Collaborative, team‑focused mindset with a commitment to accuracy and follow‑through Primarily office‑based with occasional travel for site walks, client meetings, and industry events.
