Summary:

Provides clinical nutrition services to inpatients and/or outpatients, including: assessment of individual nutritional status, evaluation and recommendation of appropriate dietary interventions to improve nutritional status, and education of patients and parents as indicated. Dietary interventions include oral diets, tube-feedings and intravenous feedings.

Responsibilities:

Performs nutrition focused physical examinations and collaborates with the physicians on malnutrition diagnoses.Collaborates with the Food Service department to provide nutritionally appropriate menus, food options, and services for patients.Provides training to Dietitians I, interns and students on nutrition care strategies and support food service staff competency. Serves as a preceptor, lecturer, or advisory board member for dietetic internship programs.Provides leadership in resolving nutrition care issues, establishing priorities, developing and evaluating programs. Serves as a resource to Dietitians I and reviews their documentation.Develops and provides education, training, consulting, and counseling services throughout the organization and for the community. Develops presentations and serves as subject matter expert in internal and external education programs and symposiums.Participates, independently or with minimal guidance, in performance improvement (PI) activities and quality initiatives, and demonstrates readiness to offer outcomes-based solutions to opportunities.Assesses patients’ nutritional status and needs. Develops and implements care plans, monitors patients' progress, and updates interventions. Completes thorough and timely documentation of patient sessions in the electronic health record.Collaborates with physicians, nursing, pharmacy and other healthcare team members and departments to determine, coordinate, and provide medical nutrition therapy. Communicates plans of care with patients and their families.Participates in the development and revision of educational materials; provides recommendations to enhance learning activities and educational resources that elevate educational processes.

Education and Certification Requirements:

Bachelors (Required)Dietitian/Nutritionist License (ND LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL), Registered Dietitian CDR Certification (CDR) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

Additional Job Information:

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Required Work Experience: Two (2) years' clinical nutrition experience with at least one (1) year in specialty area required.Other Information: Must have one (1) of the following specialist certifications: Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) or Certified Specialist in Pediatric Critical Care Nutrition (CSPCCN) or Certified Specialist in Pediatrics (CSP) or CDR Advanced Practitioner (AP) or other certification from ASPEN; CDR or other nutrition credentialing agency.
