Chief of Staff to Chief Justice State of New Hampshire

Concord, NH

Base pay range: $86,151.00 $104,403.00 per annum

Summary

The New Hampshire Constitution establishes the Supreme Court Chief Justice as the administrative head of the court system. The Chief of Staff to the Chief Justice supports the Chief Justice in carrying out the constitutional responsibilities associated with administering the court system, providing executive support and leading the coordination and advancement of the Judicial Branchs mission, priorities, and public responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an aide and advisor to the Chief Justice on administrative and organizational matters.
  • Work with the Administrative Office of the Courts and judicial leaders to develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with the Judicial Branchs mission, values, and priorities.
  • Coordinate and manage the Chief Justices schedule, briefings, and commitments.
  • Supervise and/or coordinate staff or consultants supporting the Chief Justices office.
  • Oversee and coordinate complex projects involving judicial policy and reform initiatives.
  • Support the Chief Justices appointing authority to boards, commissions, and other entities.
  • Act as a liaison to national and local bar associations, publicinterest organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct research, writing, and analysis related to judicial administration and court governance.
  • Promote communication strategies that keep judges and Judicial Branch employees informed about key initiatives.
  • Draft speeches, memoranda, policy documents, and official correspondence on behalf of the Chief Justice.
  • Facilitate open lines of communication with Executive Branch officials, Legislative Branch leadership, commissioners, and agency heads.
  • Maintain accessible information resources about key Judicial Branch initiatives.
  • Represent the Chief Justice at meetings, conferences, or public events as needed.
  • Manage the Judicial Branchs centralized inventory of internal and external compliance and reporting obligations in coordination with the Administrative Office of the Courts.
  • Communicate regularly with judges, employees, and senior leadership to sustain enterprisewide awareness of compliance and reporting obligations.
  • Track ongoing efforts to ensure operations adhere to statutory requirements, court rules, administrative orders, policies, and other sources of authority.
  • Work with the Internal Audit Department to conduct quarterly reviews of the Compliance Program.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in legal, governmental, judicial, or executive administration. Demonstrated experience managing highlevel projects, communications, and policy development.
  • Preferred: Juris Doctor or advanced degree in public administration, law, or a related field. Prior experience working within the judicial system or in a senior governmental role.

Work Environment

Fulltime position based in Concord, NH. Some travel, extended hours, or evening meetings may be required. This is an atwill, exempt position under New Hampshire law.
